Eight million Spanish adults have some type of periodontal disease

Periodontal disease is a chronic pathology, which can lead to the affectation of the gums and the bone that supports the teeth. There are two types of periodontal diseases: gingivitis and periodontitis. In our country, 8 million adults, one in three, have some form of periodontal disease.

People with diabetes are more prone to tooth decay and periodontal disease

According to the Atlas of Oral Health in Spain 2022 , it is estimated that there are 5.5 million diabetic Spaniards, which places us as the second country in Europe with the most people with diabetes. On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, which is celebrated today, the General Council of Dentists recalls that people with this disease are more predisposed to have cavities and periodontal disease.

The classification highlights 13 Spanish dentists among the most relevant scientists at an international level, and selects 36 as the most influential authors in the scientific production of Dentistry in the last year.
