Periodontics
We treat the diseases that are caused by the build-up of bacterial plaque and tartar around the dental cervix, the gum line (gingivitis) and underneath the gum (periodontitis).
Symptoms of gingivitis are inflammation and bleeding of the gums caused by food debris, bacterial plaque and poor dental hygiene. It is treated by cleaning the mouth to remove bacterial plaque and tartar.
Periodontitis occurs when gingivitis has become chronic. At the beginning, this disease can be treated with curettage. The procedure consists of scaling and planing the tooth root, which removes bacterial plaque and tartar from the periodontal pockets; however, if the disease has reached an advanced stage, periodontal surgery might be necessary to achieve the purpose and, if applicable, further techniques may be required to regenerate the bone that has been lost.
