Los Consejos Generales de Dentistas, Farmacéuticos, Médicos y Veterinarios urgen a la Administración Pública a regular la publicidad sanitaria
The presidents of the General Councils of Dentists, Pharmacists, Physicians and Veterinarians have drafted a manifesto in which they alert the Public Administration about the urgent need to regulate health advertising.

Very often, the media promote companies, health centers or establishments that lack the corresponding health authorizations. These advertisements are not always ethical or objective, so they can create false expectations in citizens regarding the results of their treatments. To this situation must be added the advertising that certain "influencers" make on social networks of products, medicines and treatments that legally require prescription, execution, dispensing and monitoring by health professionals due to the risks they may entail for health.

For these reasons, the General Councils of Dentists, Pharmacists, Physicians and Veterinarians once again insist on the need to establish -as in neighboring countries- an adequate regulation to guarantee that the messages and information of a health nature that are disseminated meet strictly clinical criteria, being rigorous, truthful, prudent and understandable, based on ethics and scientific evidence, which avoid confusing the citizen.

Óscar Castro Reino, president of the General Council of Dentists, insists that the Public Administration and the various political parties must be aware that health advertising is especially sensitive and that, therefore, it must be regulated. "It is not admissible -he indicates-, that there are practically no legal restrictions on this type of advertising, in such a way that advertising, whether or not it is truthful and, on occasions, misleading, can be distributed freely and hardly without any control".

For his part, Jesús Aguilar stated that “patient safety on the Internet is a battle that Spanish pharmacists have been leading for many years. Integrating the Pharmacy into a National Plan for Patient Safety on the Internet and the control of advertising on the Internet would make the measures taken in this regard by the health authorities very effective. We propose the creation of a national plan for patient safety on the Internet that prevents the illegal sale of medicines, counterfeits and controls misleading advertising, hoaxes and misinformation”.

Likewise, Tomás Cobo shows "the concern that as Professional Councils we have in the face of this scourge" and expresses his belligerent stance to "fight against those who play with the hope and despair of patients". “We must denounce these cases and educate the population so that they go to reliable sources based on scientific evidence, away from those who only seek confusion and misinformation”

Luis Alberto Calvo adds that “unregulated advertising in health matters often goes hand in hand with false news and erroneous beliefs, so there must be a clear regulatory framework. Veterinarians and veterinarians, like the rest of the health corporations, work relentlessly against professional intrusion, and we recommend that all citizens who live with pets be cautious in the face of any suspicious message, since on many occasions it puts you at risk the health of pets and people, as there are no dividing lines between animal health and public health”.

Finally, the Councils of Dentists, Pharmacists, Physicians and Veterinarians request that this regulation have a sanctioning procedure that can dissuade these commercial practices that can put the health of citizens at risk, and that arise especially when any other interest is put before Above her.
