The OMS requests to increase the public coverage of oral care in Spain
Yesterday a new report from the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) was made public where the "important deficiencies" in the public coverage of oral care in our country are collected.

In presenting the report, the OMS regional director for Europe, Hans Henri P. Kluge, valued the Spanish National Health System as one of the best at the European level, although he insisted that the WHO recommends “to continue increasing the public spending on health and expanding the coverage of dental care starting with the most needy ”, with the aim of improving access and financial protection in Spain.

In this sense, for the president of the General Council of Dentists, Dr. Óscar Castro Reino “the 44 million euros allocated to oral health services in the General State Budget (PGE) for 2022, less than one euro per Spanish It is an amount that is still insufficient to satisfy the demand ”. Likewise, it values positively, as stated in the PGE project for 2022, that said item puts the focus of attention on the child and youth population, pregnant women, those over 75 years of age and disabled people, and those undergoing chemotherapy or treatment. radiotherapy. “A decision that we support without fissures,” affirms Dr. Castro.

The General Council of Dentists will continue to work to promote greater coverage in oral services by the State. Poor oral health directly influences the quality of life and establishes differences among the population that should not occur in a country like ours.
