What serious problems can poor dental hygiene cause?

The bacterial flora can cause serious infections and problems at the lung, heart and kidney levels.
The mouth is one of the areas of the body to which we have to give more attention and dedication, not only to be able to have a beautiful smile but also and, especially, because it is one of the most important routes of entry for microorganisms into the body. Good oral hygiene is key to achieving healthy teeth that are pleasing to the eye and also to the smell, both your own and that of others. On the contrary, poor hygiene can cause serious infections not only in the gums but also in the kidneys or generate serious problems at the pulmonary and cardiac level (bacterial endocarditis / valvular heart disease). Lack or poor cleaning of the mouth can affect any part of the body. The dissemination of the bacterial flora (which is generated every 24 hours) produces infectious alterations at any level of the body, especially due to the amount of microorganisms that exist in the oral flora. Precisely, in intubated patients or in intensive care, this can complicate the picture. For this reason, an extreme and rigorous cleaning is suggested that, in some cases, must be done by a professional, in that sense - and taking into account the patients at risk who due to COVID-19 had to be intubated or admitted to therapy- it is very important that these people have a healthy mouth, since endotracheal intubations can also transmit microorganisms to the lungs at the time of intubation. Many times, health complications that arise in intensive care are due to poor oral condition from the patients. The oral flora produces focal infections anywhere in the body because there is microcirculation at the gingival level that is the transporter of that flora. For this reason, hygiene is extremely important.
