Extreme sensitivity: when teeth hurt when eating and drinking

There are certain foods that can favor the onset of this problem or worsen your symptoms.
If you are invited for ice cream or tempted with a fresh juice, it can cause you a terrible moment if you forget how sensitive your teeth can be. It is a strong pain, it goes fast but it makes you "see the stars".

When there is decay it can hurt cold and with sweet things. When there is wear on the necks due to bruxism, bulimia or trauma, it also hurts the cold. When there is retraction of the gums, the necks are exposed and it also hurts with the cold. However, if the integrity of the tooth remains intact it should not hurt with any food. Pain is a response of the tooth, a defense mechanism against external stimuli such as cold or heat.

But not only bad brushing and wear affects our teeth. Food also plays a fundamental role since many are healthy for the body, but they are not healthy for enamel and dentin. There is dental erosion caused by acids caused by the high consumption of oranges, lemons, grapefruit or vinegar, for example. The chemical composition favors the demineralization of dental tissues. When the protection offered by the enamel is damaged, the teeth lose thickness, the dental structure is exposed to aggressions and dental hypersensitivity to cold, heat, sweets, acids and contact can develop.

Some recommendations for sensitive teeth:

- Allow approximately 10 minutes before brushing your teeth if you consumed acidic foods.

- Do not brush aggressively.

- Use a specific toothpaste with desensitizing agents such as potassium nitrate to protect the teeth from external stimuli.

Visiting the dentist regularly favors prevention, early detection and diagnosis of possible causes.
