Drawing on real patient stories and the latest advances regarding the oral microbiome, chronic inflammation, breathing, nutrition, and longevity, the author explains how certain daily habits can influence our health. Additionally, the book offers simple, practical, and science-backed tools to incorporate into daily life and improve both present and future health.
In this way, Dr. Sandra G. Martín presents and advocates for a paradigm shift: understanding that caring for the mouth means caring for the entire body. To demonstrate this, the work analyzes the relationship between oral health and conditions such as Alzheimer's, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
It also explores the close relationship between health, beauty, and self-esteem, arguing that beauty stems from health.
“With this book, I seek not only to change the way we understand dentistry but also to bring preventive medicine to the general public and demonstrate that the greatest act of self-care can begin with a very simple gesture, such as taking care of our mouths,” the author notes.
“La salud empieza en tu boca” (Health Begins in Your Mouth) was also created with a charitable purpose. A portion of the proceeds will go toward projects focused on education and child health through the Let Love Rule Foundation. This is the organization with which Dr. Sandra G. Martín has spent over a decade developing a dental partnership alongside Lenny Kravitz, bringing oral healthcare to communities with limited access to treatment. Additionally, the book will help support the ADCAM Mara Vision School in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya, which provides education, nutrition, and future opportunities to children in the Maasai community.
