The Spanish Dental Foundation aims to ensure that 5,000 patients without resources receive free oral care by 2025.
The Spanish Dental Foundation, a non-profit entity linked to the General Council of Dentists of Spain and whose main objective is to promote the oral health of the population, has publicly presented to the media its new corporate image and the next projects that will be to be developed in the last quarter of this year and in 2024.

The FDE bases its activity on three fundamental pillars: the continued and specific training of dentists and dental students, programs and campaigns to promote oral health and solidarity.

“Today we present the new Spanish Dental Foundation, a project that makes us especially excited because it puts oral health at the center of all our present and future actions,” declared the president of the FDE and the General Council of Dentists, Dr. Óscar Castro Reino, who was accompanied in the presentation by the general secretary of both organizations, Dr. Agurtzane Meruelo Conde.

The first objective that the FDE has set is to expand its contribution to the Colleges of Dentists to increase the number of patients and free treatments carried out in the nine solidarity clinics in Spain, located in A Coruña, León, Seville , Balearic Islands, Girona, Burgos, Barcelona, Albacete and Gipuzkoa.

These clinics are managed directly by the schools themselves, whose members voluntarily and selflessly care for patients without resources who are referred by institutions, social organizations and NGOs.

If in 2022 17,520 treatments were performed, from which 3,734 patients benefited, the objective is to reach 25,000 treatments and 5,000 patients in 2025.

“We try to ensure that, to the extent of our possibilities, the FDE and the Collegiate Organization of Dentists can reach where, unfortunately, public administrations do not reach, because the portfolio of public health services does not cover the vast majority of oral treatments and there are people who They suffer serious problems because they lack resources,” explained Dr. Castro.

Despite all the efforts, there remains a large gap in oral care: more than 90% of the cost of the necessary treatments continues to come directly out of patients' pockets.

“I want to publicly express my gratitude to the Colleges of Dentists and all the professionals who selflessly offer their knowledge, their expertise and their time to care for these people,” he indicated.

Upcoming campaigns aimed at the general population

During the event, the next campaigns that the FDE and the Council of Dentists will launch have been advanced:

  • October 19. Oral Health and Nutrition, with the motto “As you wish”, with the celebration of a cooking show that will feature the participation of Roberto “Chef Bosquet”.
  • November. Healthy Mouth for life, with material for professionals and the general public.
  • In 2024. Oral Health and Disability, with Oral B and the Spanish Society of Odontostomatology for Patients with Special Needs (SEOENE).

New corporate identity

At the event, the new corporate image of the FDE was unveiled, which includes a new logo that symbolizes the union between a heart and a tooth, evoking the close relationship between oral health and general health and because the heart is the symbol par excellence of Solidarity, a fundamental pillar of the FDE.

In addition, a new website www.fundaciondental.es has been launched with a much more current and representative design of the organization.

“The objective is always to promote oral health and at the same time ensure that the FDE consolidates itself as the leading non-profit institution in the sector,” concluded president Óscar Castro.
